The Badrinath Dham sits peacefully under the Neelkanth Peak, its a sprawling view of valleys and the temple surrounded snow capped mountains. This heavenly space is nestled in the Chamoli region of Uttarakhand, India.
Badrinath Dham is a place for worship and to appreciate the natural beauty of the world as it is. The holy temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is one of the four Char Dham sites. It’s a must pilgrimage site for all Hindus and devotees throughout the world.
The origins of Badrinath are ancient, even from the days of the Mahabharata. According to myth, Lord Vishnu is said to have meditated there. Adi Shankaracharya is thought to have founded the present temple during the 9th century with a view to reviving Hinduism. Kings and followers later renovated and expanded it, making it a prominent spiritual centre. Centuries of pilgrims visited here with a desire for peace and spiritual clarity.
There is a great legend about why Badrinath was named so. It is said that Lord Vishnu had once been meditating beneath a berry tree in this valley. To shield him from the cold, Goddess Lakshmi turned herself into a tree, providing him shelter and warmth. That tree, Badri, also became the namesake of the area—Badrinath, or “Lord of Badri.”
Reaching Badrinath is relatively simple:
Plan your visit from May to October. The temple is closed during winter because of the snow.
Badrinath Dham is not just a religious pilgrimage. It’s a sojourn into nature, mythology, and spirituality. Whatever you are seeking—faith, history, or simply the grandeur of the Himalayas—Badrinath delivers memories that linger far longer than your stay.
